In general: With the exception of entries in my contests, awards received from others, and a handful of clearly-labeled adopted dolls, all of the text and artwork on this site belongs to me, Sarah.
Dolls
Most of the dolls on this site are free for "adoption". That means that you can use them to decorate your site or to put on an adopted dolls page, as long as you give me credit (including a link back to my site, as described on my links page). You may not edit them or change them in any way, or use pieces from them in your own work.
Some dolls are not adoptable. Usually it will say so in the 'alt' text that you see when you hold your cursor over the image. In general, gifts and some requests are not available for adoption. If you see one that you really just have to use, though, send me an email and I may be able to make an exception.
If you want to use anything of mine, please save it and upload it to your own web space. Do not ever, ever 'direct link'. (Some people have special permission. They have all been told so personally by me.)
Signatures, Avatars, Etc.
A rare example of a doll that is of someone else's character. Most of my dolls represent my own characters. Unless I say otherwise, you are free to adopt them. The characters absolutely belong to me (or their respective creators), and the dolls are very strongly associated with the characters. Please do not use them as personal photos, signatures, or avatars. Basically, do not use them in such a way to make it look like that doll is supposed to represent "you" (or your character). Again, if you see one that is just perfect for your character, send me an email and we can talk.
There are exceptions, of course - some character dolls are made especially for use by specific people or groups.
Gifts and Requests
An award-gift for Lorani. If I make a doll for you as a gift or request, then it belongs to you, and you are free to use it on your site or as a signature, avatar, or personal photo. (You may not, however, claim to have made it yourself.)
Gifts do not have to be credited (though if someone asks, you can tell them who it came from) and are not usually adoptable by anyone else. Requests should be credited with a link and are adoptable unless labeled otherwise. (If you win a request and would prefer that it not become adoptable, please let me know.)
The doll this is based on was a request. I reserve the right to use anything I make in site graphics or for my own personal use and to enter in contests.
Bases
A doll on one of my Aeylari bases.
* If you use one of my bases, you must credit me with a link back to this site. The link doesn't have to be on the same page, but it should be around there somewhere, and it should be easy to find.
* You can change skin tones or edit to your heart's content, but any base you produce starting with one of mine will still be mine, no matter how much editing you have done or how much you improve on the original. (So it will still need to be credited!)
* The obvious provisos: You can't offer these for download, or act like they are yours, or put them in a dollmaker, or do a "base edit" contest without asking for permission.
* You can, of course, remove my "signature" when you use a base. Any doll you make belongs to you.
Blinkies, Etc.
A good example of 'etc'.The normal "adoption" rules generally apply, except that use in signatures is encouraged. :) If you are using something small like a blinkie and it is awkward or impossible to include a link and a credit right there with it, you are excused. (If anyone asks, though, you should tell them where you got it!) Please do link back if you are displaying a blinkie in an easily-linkable palce like a website.
Questions?
If you ever have any questions about appropriate use of anything offered on this site, please contact me. If you want to do something that is not usually allowed (or if you are not sure if something is allowed), I will be happy to talk to you. :) (I will probably be absolutely delighted to know that you are interested!)
